CALIFORNIA TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION APPROVES BILLION-DOLLAR INFUSION OF FUNDING TO UPGRADE TRANSPORTATION AND PROMOTE JOBS

FRESNO – Continuing the drive to rebuild the state’s infrastructure, the California Transportation Commission (CTC) today allocated $1 billion in funding for 153 transportation projects that will strengthen the state’s economy by sustaining and creating jobs while providing congestion relief for motorists statewide.

“We’re building transportation improvements that will benefit the state for decades to come and boost job growth in every region of California,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty.

The allocations include nearly $541 million from Proposition 1B, a 2006 voter-approved transportation bond. In total, more than $15.5 billion in Proposition 1B funds have been put to work statewide.

Highlights of the funding allocations include:

  • An allocation of $728,000 towards a widening project along Temperance Avenue in the city of Clovis between Enterprise Canal and Shepherd Avenue. This project will serve to increase vehicle capacity, reliability, safety, and security of the existing transportation system for motorized and non-motorized users, as well as improve quality of life, and promote an efficient management and operation system.
  • An allocation of $7,551,000 to the City of Dinuba for the Avenue 416 Widening project, between Road 56 to Road 80. The widening of three miles of 2-lane road to a 4-lane with a 2-way left-turn lane will ease traffic congestion and eliminate sight distance problems.
  • An allocation of $225,000 to the City of Bakersfield for the Hageman Road Signal Installation & Synchronization project, at Hageman Road and Old Farm Road, and Hageman Road and Jewetta Avenue. This project will improve air quality and reduce traffic congestion to better coordinate/manage current and future traffic volumes
