SR-18 Safety Widening

Caltrans is proposing a safety project on SR-181Big Bear Blvd from PM 53.12 to PM 53.87 to reduce accident rates. Between January I, 2004 and September 30, 2007, 22 accidents occurred at the intersection of SR-18/Big Bear Blvd and Big Tree Drive. These rates are 60% higher than the average statewide accident rates for comparable highways during the same period. Caltrans is proposing to widen the roadway, re-stripe the intersection to provide a left-tum lane at the intersection of SR-18/Big Bear Blvd and Big Tree Drive, and provide 8-ft paved shoulders on the north side of the highway.

Caltrans plans to have early and ongoing public input into the project development process, and appreciates your thoughts.
