Caltrans has 12 districts. We are District 2, with main offices in Redding, California. At 27,307 square miles, we're the second largest district (area) in the state. Our District includes the counties of LassenModocPlumasShastaSiskiyouTehama, and Trinity Counties. District 2 also services portions of Butte and Sierra Counties.

INTERSTATE 5

Klamath River Bridge

WORK IN PROGRESS

A project north of Yreka is in progress. It includes widening, bridge rail upgrade, and undercrossing. Northbound and southbound traffic on Interstate 5 currently is under a 55 mph speed reduction with single lane closures in effect for both directions. Construction operations will continue throughout the winter.

Collier Rest Area – Water Treatment Facility

Among other construction improvements, a water treatment facility is being installed in the Randolph Collier Rest Area by I-5 north of Yreka. The rest area will remain open through the winter with minor impacts to traffic on Interstate 5.

Shasta Viaduct

TEMPORARILY SHUTDOWN

On November 27, 2017 Caltrans Structure Design deemed it appropriate to conduct an internal design review prior to pouring the superstructure, after survey results showed a small lateral displacement at the crown of the arches. The project has been on hold since January 5, 2018 when the contractor ran out of productive work.  It is anticipated that the project will resume by or before the week of February 5, 2018. The project is on track for delivery at the original completion date.

Federal Highway Realignment Construction

WINTER SUSPENSION

West of Red Bluff. Realignment project between post mile 36.05 and 40.44 in Humboldt County (west of Dinsmore). Full highway closures have been suspended until April 1, 2018. Instead, one lane closures. Motorists can expect up to 30 minute delays under one-way traffic control/traffic signal, Monday - Sunday.


State Route 70

East of Twain - WORK IN PROGRESS

Spring Garden Bridge - WINTER SUSPENSION

East of Twain - Temporary traffic signal for one-way traffic control. The signal is in place while storm damage repair to the retaining wall is completed. This project is ongoing.

Spring Garden Bridge - From Post Mile 50 to 51 and located approximately 5 miles East of Quincy. This project is in winter suspension and that means that there are no traffic restrictions and no work going on until the 2018 construction season which usually starts during the spring.


State Route 96

Happy Camp

WORK IN PROGRESS

The road is open, all lanes. Motorists may encounter Caltrans employees doing work at various locations along State Route 96, and there may be traffic control operations with minimal delays at certain points. Caltrans is working on a long stretch of SR 96, repairing the road from winter storm damage. Construction operations will continue throughout the winter unless extreme winter weather prevents Caltrans and its contractors to perform corresponding jobs.

Hamilton Branch Bridge

WORK IN PROGRESS

The road between Hamilton Branch and Clear Creek has been reopened. The Hamilton Branch Bridge is located on SR 147. Caltrans and its contractor continue working on replacing this bridge; work is heavily dependent on weather.
